They say charity starts at home, and because of her leadership, my mother sparked in me a passion for civic engagement. I know firsthand the transformative power a mother holds in her hands.
My mom, a teacher, served our community as a member of the library board and then went on to run for school board, spending most of my childhood giving of her time and talents as a public servant. She believed the surest way to change communities is to invest in education. I share that belief. She taught me that women can and should lead – at home, at work, and in the community.
Because of my mom’s example and the example of my wife Lisa and other strong women, I am a better husband, father, son, brother, and civic leader.
Thank you to every mother, grandmother, and caregiver. Thank you for all that you do to unite and strengthen our communities. You may never know how much of a difference you make but know that you are appreciated and loved.
Happy Mother’s Day and may your day be as blessed as you are.
